Tourism Zones Management

Through the co-ordination and liaison with various stakeholders, entities and authorities, Tourism Zone Officers monitor the quality of the product in their respective zones. A number of interventions, that comprise cleansing, maintenance and small embellishment initiatives, are originated, co-ordinated and funded through this management mechanism.

Cleaner Surroundings
Although mundane in its nature, providing a clean product is one of the basic challenges of the destination. In summer, the Directorate collaborates with other entities for the provision of extra funding to local authorities that in turn increase the frequency of cleaning/washing services, litter picking and the emptying of litter bins.

Maintenance
Through continuous zone monitoring, the Officers are constantly on the look out for maintenance problems in the urban setting of the respective zones. It is not unusual for Officers to request interventions to clear debris or dumping sites, to repair or replace street furniture, as well as taking an active interest in traffic management, waste management, and all those other issues linked with town-centre management.

Interventions
In many instances Tourism Zone officers instigate interventions to improve the area, on many occasions involving other entities to carry out the work required.

Beach Management
The Directorate is also involved in the management of these beaches and encouraged by the fact that the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) has acknowledged the quality of the work being offered by awarding the Blue Flag to St George's Bay for the very first time in Malta, the Directorate extended these services to Bugibba Perched Beach, Mellieha Bay and Golden Bay.
