Research & Library

The Research Unit generates market intelligence through international and local research, whilst the Malta Tourism Library supports this work by providing access to key tourism publications and resources.

Research Unit

The Research Unit collects and generates market intelligence from a range of sources to guide the Malta Tourism Authority in optimising resource allocation. It supports planning processes, ensures accountability and applies practical methods of evaluating activities.

Research is divided into international and local streams. International research monitors outbound markets, key segments driving tourism and competitor destinations. Local research covers customer and trade analysis, including market profiles, product and service evaluations, and economic assessments.

Tourism trends and performance, both local and international, are continuously monitored and compared.

You may wish to access a selection of reports compiled by the Research Unit on this link.

Library

One of the roles of the Malta Tourism Observatory involves managing two libraries. The Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) owns and operates the Malta Tourism Library and the Jafar Jafari Library. These libraries serve as essential resources for tourism-related research and information, housing an extensive collection of books, reports, and publications on tourism, hospitality and Malta’s cultural heritage. They play a critical role in supporting the MTA’s strategic initiatives and provide valuable insights to industry stakeholders.
