The Malta Tourism Authority has presented two leading environmental NGOs, Sharklab Malta and Nature Trust – FEE Malta, with donation cheques of €1,500 each during a presentation ceremony held today, Wednesdays 10th December, at the MTA Offices in Smart City.
Earlier this year, Malta and Gozo were awarded the prestigious title of “Diving Destination of the Year 2025” at the renowned BOOT Düsseldorf Dive Fair in Germany. The award, which recognises outstanding marine tourism experiences, included a €3,000 cash prize. The MTA has taken the decision to donate this full amount to the two NGOs in recognition of their valuable contributions toward marine conservation, research and awareness, efforts that help strengthen Malta’s reputation as a top-quality diving destination.
Sharklab Malta is a voluntary organisation dedicated to sharks, rays and skates conservation, research, education, and the protection of biodiversity in Maltese waters. The NGO works closely with local stakeholders to improve knowledge of native marine species, promote sustainable practices, and inspire the next generation of ocean advocates.
Nature Trust – FEE Malta is one of the longest-established environmental NGOs in Malta, focused on the protection of natural habitats, wildlife rescue, habitat restoration, and extensive environmental education initiatives. Through continuous conservation work on land and in marine environments, the organisation strives to safeguard Malta’s biodiversity for present and future generations
“Malta’s recognition as Diving Destination of the Year reflects the exceptional quality of our diving product and the efforts of many dedicated stakeholders. Sharklab Malta and Nature Trust have been instrumental in supporting our marine environment, promoting sustainability, and protecting what makes Malta unique beneath the surface. Their work helps us position Malta not only as a world-class diving destination, but as a responsible and environmentally conscious one. We are honoured to acknowledge their contribution and proud to support their continued efforts.” said Carlo Micallef, MTA CEO.
Through this initiative, the MTA reinforces its ongoing commitment to strengthening Malta’s marine product while recognising those who play a key role in maintaining the quality and sustainability that attract divers from around the world.
