Brand Partnerships & Innovation
The Brand Partnerships & Innovation Directorate enhances Malta’s global tourism appeal through strategic collaborations and creative initiatives. It builds partnerships with international brands, such as Team Polti VisitMalta and Manchester United, to boost Malta’s profile as a top-tier travel destination.
MTA Partnerships
Team Polti VisitMalta
Team Polti VisitMalta highlights Malta’s growing reputation in the international cycling arena. As part of Malta’s broader sports tourism push, the partnership amplifies the island’s appeal as a training destination thanks to its scenic terrain, mild climate and modern infrastructure.
The partnership also shines a spotlight on local talent, offering Maltese cyclists such as Aidan Buttigieg, and recently Andrea Mifsud, unprecedented exposure. With Team Polti racing under the VisitMalta banner, the islands benefit from consistent branding throughout major international races and media engagements. This initiative not only brings new visitors to Malta but positions the islands firmly within the global cycling conversation.
Manchester United
Few sports partnerships carry the legacy and global resonance of Malta’s relationship with Manchester United. Officially renewed in 2019 when VisitMalta became the club’s exclusive destination partner, the alliance builds on over sixty years of friendship between the club and Malta’s passionate fan base.
Through digital visibility, in-stadium branding and initiatives like Malta Day at Old Trafford, training camps and legend activations, the partnership elevates Malta to an audience of millions. It represents a blend of sport, culture, and nation branding; bringing Malta into the hearts and minds of fans around the world.
Malta National Football Teams
In collaboration with the Malta Football Association, the MTA supports the growth of sports tourism through football. By featuring the VisitMalta brand on national team kits and investing in sporting infrastructure, the partnership promotes both grassroots development and elite performance. This strategy increases Malta’s visibility in European competitions and fosters opportunities to host international teams, tournaments, and training camps
Events
The Events Unit acts as a vital catalyst for Malta’s tourism economy, strategically identifying, organising, co-organising and supporting events that elevate the island’s global profile. These include both large-scale productions and culturally significant experiences, designed to draw diverse audiences and bolster off-peak travel.
Isle of MTV Malta and SummerDaze remain flagship music events, engaging the youth market with high-energy programming and international talent. Equally important are cultural offerings such as the BBC Concert Orchestra and artistic showcases that reflect Malta’s rich heritage and creative spirit.
Seasonal events, like the spectacular Malta International Fireworks Festival and the family-favourite Fairyland – Santa’s City are curated to sustain year-round tourism momentum. Each event is chosen not only for its appeal, but for its ability to reflect Malta’s brand values: vibrant, inclusive and memorable.
Local PR
The Local PR Unit plays a central role in shaping how the Malta Tourism Authority communicates with the public, media and other key stakeholders. Through strategic planning and close collaboration with all MTA departments, the team ensures that the Malta Tourism Authority’s work, initiatives and achievements are effectively communicated and effectively received by local audiences.
The Unit coordinates press conferences, media briefings, launches and official announcements, whilst also managing the Authority’s local social media presence. By showcasing ongoing projects and collaborations, the team strengthens public awareness of MTA’s strategy in investing in high-quality, sustainable tourism throughout the year.
Maintaining a consistent and positive public image is a core responsibility. The Local PR Unit works to build trust, foster transparent communication and create strong relationships with journalists, partners, and the wider community.
Tourist Information Offices & Customer Care
The Malta Tourism Authority’s Tourist Information Offices are frontline ambassadors of the VisitMalta experience. Situated in prime locations across Malta and Gozo, from bustling harbours to heritage centres, these offices serve as trusted resources for visitors seeking guidance, inspiration and reassurance.
Operated by multilingual, professionally trained staff, the TIOs provide a wide array of services, including itinerary planning, insights about attractions and sites, safety tips and information on transportation, accommodation and events. Their role goes beyond assistance; they actively promote the Maltese Islands experience and sustainable travel, reinforcing quality and responsibility at every turn.
TIOs also serve as data hubs, capturing real-time feedback and visitor sentiment which helps the MTA refine strategy and enhance services. In this way, the offices bridge physical hospitality with digital insight, ensuring every visitor’s journey is as enriching as it is seamless.
TIOs are a vital part of Malta’s tourism brand, delivering excellence in customer care and contributing meaningfully to Malta’s reputation as a world-class destination.
